(Quotes and material found from Successful Marriages and Families, Chapter 29 – The Proclamation)
Making your home a “Family Proclamation” home is virtually the same as making your home Christ Centered. The Family: A Proclamation to the World was written by the First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is meant for our day and age so that we may remember what God’s view of the family is. I say “remember” because we can find His teachings through the scriptures, The Bible and The Book of Mormon, and words of Apostles and Prophets.
“More than ever, families are under attack. A culture of throwaway relationships; familial apathy and permissive values; and secularism, selfishness, and immorality has made the responsibility to build strong families more challenging and more important.” (pg. 313)
“A child hearing and believing the words of the proclamation regarding families united eternally would begin a lifetime of looking for a holy temple where ordinances and covenants perpetuate family relationships beyond the grave.” (President Henry B. Eyering pg. 313)
I believe that the more we have righteous matter in our midst the more it will soak into us and perhaps into others.
That is why for this week, I encourage you to place The Family: A Proclamation to the World in your home, where all can see it. Personalizing it by adding your own photo or photos makes for a more meaningful experience. I am still newly married so when I saw my family in the midst of the words of the Proclamation, the spirit swelled within me and I felt comforted and happy to know that I was following God’s plan. I desire for you all to have that experience as well!
There are some really fun ways of personalizing the Proclamation out there! This is the one I chose. I lucked out where all I had to do was email a good quality picture to David at email@example.com and he placed the Proclamation overlay on it and emailed it back! Now I am free to print and place it however I’d like! It only cost $1.00 and I was able to pay over the phone. (You will receive directions upon emailing the business).
Here are some other fun options that I found!
